Sync Problem

Sync Problem

I am trying to sync to a Tascam MX2424 via a MOTU MTPAV.... I have everything set up properly and can see the MP7 recieving MIDI but the song does not start.

I do have the MP7 set to external.... question is that the prompt says 0=midi sync .... I can only scroll to a tempo of 1 ... however the mp7 is showing text as EXT on the left ... is this normal ?

Now if I take the same EXACT connections and replace the MP7 with a Yamaha 7000 it starts right up with Tascam MDM.... Furthermore if I then hook the MP7 to the Yamaha it then works !!!

Any Clues? ... I need the MP7 to start directly from the Tascam as opposed to being connected to the Yamaha first ..

The XL-7 must be set up to receive the MMC commands (start, stop, etc) via
MIDI.  Goto the MIDI menu and set "Base Tempo' = "ext" (0) and "External
SONG Start/Stop" = "accepted"  (manual page 146).

I have done this ... do me a favor and look at your MP7 and see if you can crank down your Base tempo to 0 or if it only goes down to 1 and reads EXT to the left of that .

I think I confused more people than I helped with that "tip".  People
couldn't figure out how to set tempo to external, so I indicated that
"0" was external.  Once you set it to 0, it shows EXT.  If it's still
not syncing at that point, make sure the MIDI in LED is flashing,
indicating that you're getting sync.

I can see it recieving midi  but it won't start.... but if I connect to the Yamaha it does start

  not syncing at that point, make sure the MIDI in LED is flashing,

I use my XL-7 with my Roland VS HD recorder and use the midi clock sync and
start/stop from the VS.  This works for me OK so I will check my settings
when I get home.......

The flashing MIDI in LED is flashing continuously from the MIDI clock.  The
start/stop is a single midi message.....one flash......

Is the tempo updating (i.e the "current: XXX" field)?  If so, you're
receiving sync, but not song start.  If it's not, you're not even
getting clock information.  Make sure the MX2424 sends *SONG START* not
MMC.
