MIDI Program Change Message

2004-12-20 by Fab Claxton

Hey gang,

I want to hook up the XL-7 to my Boss SP-505 (sampler). I want the XL-7's
sequencer to control the pads (samples) on the SP-505. For instance, when a
note is programmed into a pattern on track #1 of the XL-7, I want it to trigger
pad #1 on the SP-505. According to the 505's manual, I need to send a "MIDI
Program Change Message" from the XL-7 to the 505. I need to use PC #17
and upwards to access the card (user) banks in the 505. How do I send these
messages from the XL-7? I found in the manual how to receive Program
Change Messages in the XL-7, but not how to send them.

Also, I don't want the patterns on the SP-505 to start playing - I just want to
trigger the pads themselves. Right now, all I can do is start the patterns of the
SP-505 using the XL-7. In order to trigger pad #1 on the 505, would I have to
program a certain note into the sequencer of the XL-7 (ie: C#2)?

Thank you very much to anyone who's able to help,
Fab
