Or use the XL-7's MIDI Menu command to disable "Transmit MIDI Clock". Just another option if the SP-505 doesn't have the option to ignore external start/stop commands. rEalm I am not familiar with the SP-505, but I assume in order to prevent its patterns from playing, you have to make sure the e-mu's midi transport commands (eg, start) don't reach the SP-505. My instints tell me you probably need to this on the SP-505 side. Hope this helps.
