Have you opened the unit to make sure all cables and ROM(s) are seated properly ? The ROMs use a similar type socket to PC memory and sometimes either need contacts cleaned or reseating.....
If this unit was recently shipped it could be a possibility.......

Forgot to mention - I'm running V2.00 sw with the base (MP7)
chipset. and it happens when I'm not connected to any other MIDI
device...
