Yes. When you hook the MIDI OUT of the XL to it's own MIDI IN, a loop is created. In normal use, if MIDI Thru mode (where stuff that comes in to the MIDI IN port gets sent back out through the OUT port) is on, the MIDI information keeps getting duplicated until it just wigs everything out. This is not a good thing. The loopback test in diagnostics is used to test the MIDI ports functionality. A MIDI loop should be avoided at all times. I believe someone recently (malik?) had a loopback issue that futzed his patterns. -- Mibrilane
