Hello, I was thinking about a few things that might have something to do with the timming delays. You said; > its easy to hear this while playing tight drum tracks or notes with a midi clocked echo or delay as they become sloppy / messy to the ear once a second track is unmuted or more Are you running your midi through a sequencing program? If so there are a few things that could be causing the delays. Even if you aren't using a computer program but have the MIDI cables connected to something, you might have a small midi loop problem that only manifests itself as you add more and more midi out. Other than that I can't think of anything if your diagnostics say the hardware is fine.
