There's no real way to do ties in the grid editor.  Adrien's solution
will work if you really want to work in grid mode.  Alternatively, give
step edit a try.  It's what's really designed for basslines.  Grid is
really targeted at drum editing.  That's not to say that it couldn't
have been or that it wouldn't be nice, it just wasn't the design goal.
