Switch your tracks that target the external gear to be "external" in the 2nd to last pattern edit screen. Then, in the event editor (the next screen to the left, i.e. 3rd to end) insert a program change event. You will have MSB, LSB and ProgCh which, if you're using an E-mu external synth, you can discern by pressing Audition on the external box.
