Actually, you're probably in beats mode. Check the 8th screen in the Arp menu (on the PX-7 it's labeled Arp/Beats) which is the BEATS MODE screen. Set mode to "off" if you never intend to use the feature. By default, it's in preset mode "P" which means if the preset you're on has an enhanced beats riff (prefixed with BTS) it will do the beating thing, otherwise it won't.
