Pattern Channel Assign

2013-12-14 by Scott E. Whitehead

This has come up recently in the effect send conversation but there's still
a question about saving alternate track MIDI outputs.

Say you have a piece of outboard gear with four MIDI voices like a Virus
Snow TI. And you want to send note data to voice one from Command Station
tracks 1-4, voice two with 5-8, etc. This gives you four different (or
stacked) parts for the same instrument all in one pattern. In the pattern,
you can set the channel assignment to MIDI A, channel 1, 2, 3, 4
respectively. Here you also set the destination to external. Then you can
use this pattern as the starting point for new tracks. So far so good.
Test, save, reboot, aaaaaaand your settings are gone. Someone on the list
proposed saving MIDI note data here, which I tried but works erratically.
Last time I did it, one of four saved, and of course, the note plays. I
also played around with saving CC data instead of notes but that didn't work
at all.

Is anyone else trying to do this, have you had any success or do you keep it
set to the default and deal with it as an opportunity for creative problem
solving?

I've done the factory reset with no change in behavior other than having to
redo my master program knob preferences.

Thanks,
Scott
