Why is there still so much excitment about Rom burning?

I have a feeling that the issue keeps getting brought up again and again by
newbies who think this will save them the money of buying any more gear,
which isn't the case. Flash ram is really expensive; for the same price as a
32 meg flash ram, you could buy an older used sampler, and get much more for
your money.

Will someone prove me wrong and explain why we should keep pestering emu
about this elaborate, unlikely, expensive and ultimately pretty boring
potential feature?
