Why is there still so much excitment about Rom burning?

I have a feeling that the issue keeps getting brought up again and again by
newbies who think this will save them the money of buying any more gear,
which isn't the case. Flash ram is really expensive; for the same price as a
32 meg flash ram, you could buy an older used sampler, and get much more for
your money.

Will someone prove me wrong and explain why we should keep pestering emu
about this elaborate, unlikely, expensive and ultimately pretty boring
potential feature?

Elaborate, yes, expensive, yes, likely? no...but in the sake of the
argument, I don't want to buy a $100, minimally controllable, 500kb sampler
when i already have a $2500 one that can do just about anything...but I
personally don't like taking it out to gig with just for a the use of a
personally constructed and synthesized drum kit...one that couldnt be
constructed on the xl7 without burning a rom. My sampler ways a ton, it's
not happy in harsh envirements, and the more I can make a sound my own, the
better...not to mention, I already have to rack fulls of gear, plus a nord
modular to lug around, would be nice to have a bit more power in a box
thats already in the rack.

But, all in all, I'm not saying we should keep pestering EMU, I'm simply
pointing out that there are good reasons for it for other people out there,
even if the're aren't any for you. If I had a chunk of change to spend, I
would still rather buy a Proteus, or whichever synth it is that can burn
roms, than to buy a whole different sampler that I would have to deal with
more loading everytime i turn it on...I'd be more than happy to pull out
the xl7's preset rom and keep something completely filled with rom samples
of my own in it....
