You can always use a kit for one of the layers as long as you don't need that sampled played over more than one key. Certainly a restriction but also maybe a work around for some cases. Layering is by far your best chance for enhancing the sounds of one instrument. For key element like the kick maybe it is wise to use a full four layer approach just for it? Not only do you get four different samples potentially to work with but also four Z-Plane filters. A lot of potential within those! One last thought since you have the Emu 5000. I realize this is not the most inexpensive approach, but why not make up a lot of custom drum sounds on the Emu 5000 from a variety of sources using layering and what-not, resample those and then burn a FLASH card for the XX7? drk www.delora.com/music www.mp3.com/zdrk drk.iuma.com
