There's lots of free wave recorders online, do a search and you'll find
tons...

     Byron,

Thanks for the advice. I checked out the sound recorder that comes
with my sound card and it
records a whopping 60 seconds. Short of limiting my piece to this time
frame, does anyone have
any ideas as to how I can get analog line in from my XL-7 to a .wav file
on my puter?

Yes, that would be a wav file you need. You don't need any fancy program's
or virtual studios just to record a single stereo track....just run the
stereo main outs of your xx7 into the line-in of your sound card (you'll
probably need a stereo rca to 1/8" jack audio cable with 2 mono 1/4"
adapters for the rca side...or something that equivelates to the same).
Then
use an audio recording program to record the line-in input. Your sound
card
surely came with at least a simple one. Since we're only doing raw direct
recordings, no pre/post mastering, you don't need any extravegant
programs.
Then take the wav file the recording produced and open it up in LAME and
compress it into a a 44khz mp3, was 192kbps the highest rate of encoding?
If
so, use that setting for best quality results.
