I think you are talking about a different problem. In his case he is saying that the sound assignments in hus old songs are being changed when he selects what sounds he wants for his new song. In your case it sounds like you are editing a preset and saving at the same location as a version you used on another song. Simply save it in a different location in the user banks. So if you have "string1" at location 127(1) used in one song and then use that sound again in asnother song and edit it you need to save it somewhere else other than 127(1).
