XL v1 vs XL v2 roms

XL v1 vs XL v2 roms

2004-01-05 by dj 61

I have found a good deal on XL v2 roms, but I already have an XL v1.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is? I have heard an extra bank
of presets. Also does anyone know if the XL rom from the XL-7 has
ever been released individually, or do you have to find one pulled
from the machine?

You can load the xl7 presets into an xl1
there is a *.mid bank somewhere here

bascially the xl7 in its first bank is more drum/percussion
orientated

From talking with EMU, the new XLead "v2" ROM is actually the presets
from the XL-1 with an aditional bank (a total of 640?). This new bank
is made up of the "best" of the XL-7 presets.

I believe the answer to your other question is that the rom included
in the purchase of the XL-7 was actually the same as the "XLEAD v1"
ROM for sale as an add on ROM. The new ROM would have quite a few
differences from that ROM, as it's presets mostly come from the XL-1
rack unit.

I think it's a good deal. they give you 640 presets that contain the
XL-1 sounds and some XL-7 sounds. What you can then do is use the
midi file mentioned in an earlier reply to add any other XL-7 sounds.
One hitch, the arp patterns on the ROM may be different, but you may
not care about that too much if you only write your own.

By the way, care to disclose your source for these ROMs to the
community? I traded out my Xlead rom a while back and have been
considering getting a new one.

ARP question

I'm trying to program an arp that plays

Root-5th-Octave-5th in a cycle for any note held. Is this not possible?

Can't you just do a four-step sequence:

Step 01 = +0
Step 02 = +7
Step 03 = +12
Step 04 = +7

I must not be understanding what you're trying to do.

As for the fourth bank, does this extra bank take away from what would
be a user area? Would I not be just as well or better to add the xl-7
presets to my user?

I try to take up minimum amount of board space on rom sales. I try to
post here first when they are available, but feel free to email me at
anytime.
