Error Code 100

Error Code 100

2004-01-31 by jdou1901

When I turn my Xl-7 on, I get this message- Error! Code 100. Save
Failed. I'm using OS 1.31. The last time I used the unit and it
booted up without this message, I set my tempo to ext to slave to my
computer. Now, when I turn on and get this error, my tempo is still
set to ext(this has not happened before). When I go to midi function
to reset tempo, I get a message - Compact Data Now--press Enter. I
hit midi button again and this goes away with a message that says,
Compact Data Soon. Then the unit works fine. But this happens each
time I turn on the unit. Anyone know what this means?

It means exactly what it says. You need to press Enter when it wants
you to. Since you didn't press Enter, it's telling you that you need
to let it compact soon.

Press Enter the next time it asks.

PS. in case you're wondering, after time, flash memory gets fragmented
just like a hard drive. you're now at the point where there's no free
space and it needs to defragment (compact).

BTW, where exactly is this flash memory located? I seem to remember
when I was installing the expansion roms that only the original Xl-7
rom said 2mb flash... Is it there where the memory is at or is
elsewhere on the machine? Just curious....

thanks in advance...

There's several flash parts lurking around in your XL-7. You could
have 2MB on each sound ROM (or it could be a 2MB ROM to hold presets),
you could have a whole 32MB flash ROM (which actually has 34MB,
[32+2]), but the flash part you're referring to is on the main board.
It is 16MB and holds the boot loader, the main OS, two copies of all
your settings, patterns, songs, and then has "room to grow". It is
this room to grow that must get flushed back.

That was probably more info than you wanted...
