Px-7 availability

Px-7 availability

2004-05-07 by tomic_47

I wanted to order a new Px-7 but they are no longer available at
online retailers! How come considering they are pretty fresh, last
year model?
Anybody knows, will there be a replacement model or discontinued for
good?

thanks

I hate to be the one to break it to you.

but EMU is now the manufacturer of affordable PCI sound cards with built in DSP.

They no longer manufacture Samplers, keyboards, and Sound mods, or command stations for that matter.
Sucks don't it?
I want a PX-7 too. If you find anywhere let me know, I'll do the same, except, you better not get in a bidding war with me on ebay for one.
MP and XL 7's are easy to find, they're everywhere, and cheap.

Try your local Guitar Center. Mine had one on sale for $499

Thanks to you both, Paolo and Wesley for the info but I'm from
Europe so first, I'll try my luck here.

AW: [xl7] Px-7 availability

2004-05-08 by Frodo

You could always order an MP-7 or XL-7 and the Prothean Drums ROM, since it
is the one in the PX-7 ;)
A little more investement, but you get some cool, freaky, funky sounds with
it and you can still order the protean drums ROM directly from EMU.
I have an XL-7 and I love the electronic stuff on the X Lead 2 ROM.

Indeed, my Command Station is actually an XL-7. I saw the PX-7 at
Guitar Center after I'd already gotten my XL-7. No regrets, though -
I got a good deal on the XL-7 (practically new - manual was still
shrink wrapped and everything) off of eBay. And yes, I also got the
Protean Drums ROM.

WHAT?!?!

when was this announced? i completely missed this horrible news. yamaha
announced something similar a short time ago.

this sucks. soft synths have their place, but they're not the last word on
synthesis. if this keeps up, will we all end desperately searching the used
market for our synths in a few years?

is the market that bad for hardware? i think i'm gonna cry.

wildstar,

This was sort of a quiet development, early this year. I'm sure E-mu
didn't want to scare their loyal customers, although the alienation
is all but inevitable, since there are plenty of us who don't dig
softsynths or want to have to rely on a PC to have/play our synths.

I have very little interest in softsynths, and for me, the strongest
point of E-mu's synth line has always been the actual synth engine
and user interface. This is the end of the line for hardsynth
innovation. I suspect that they are hoping that their new product
focus will sell itself by virtue of their legacy soundset. I have
grave doubts, since their actual sounds were never the best on the
market...though I'm sure the new soundcard is a very good one.

> is the market that bad for hardware?

I don't think the issue is that the market is that bad for hardware;
its just that its that GOOD for softsynths. It allows the synth
manufacturers adopt the Microsoft model: coerce users to upgrade
every couple of years or face obsolescence and the loss of support
(oh, the horror!)

> yamaha announced something similar a short time ago.

I doubt this (unless you're talking about a specific range of
products, i.e. grooveboxes). I just got my Motif ES6, and I doubt
that its going out of production anytime soon.

In my opinion, the whole softsynth thing is a fad that will
pass...eventually.

Anyway, it still sucks. Marketing cyborgs have ruined another
perfectly good thing in the world.

Andy

As far as I'm concerned E-mu died when they stopped making hardware.
