Fruity Loops with XL7 (uploading/downloading)

Fruity Loops with XL7 (uploading/downloading)

2006-10-15 by atip_akira

hey b4 i start i am a real noob so pls excuse me with for my stupid
questions lol, when i upload and import a Midi pattern into fruity
loops all the instruments change, i think this is because my computer
doesnt have those Rom thing installed, is there anyway i can get the
midi files to play correctly?

also, again, when i download a midi to the xl7 from the internet all
the instruments change, resulting in an hour of me trying to find the
best sound for each track. why does this happen?

again im sorry for the noobness of these question.
Please be kind, ~Akira~

you might need to disable recieving program change on the command
station. not sure tho. but whenever i open a song in fruityloops or
whatever. and i have my MS2000 connected, it sends a program change
message to it. so i have to set my MS2000 to ignore program changes.

Once you inport the MIDI file to Fruity Loops are you using Fruity
Loops to control the XL7 or is the MIDI patteren playing just in
Fruity Loops? (is that possible with Fruity Loops? I'm not familiar
with the program) sound like you are doing the second but I'm not sure.

If it is the second option then I think your problem isn't a problem
at all but is a confusion on your part on how MIDI works.

MIDI is not sound it is sorta like sending sheet music. you can play
that sheet music using a violin or a piano but it will sound
different. yet it is the same sheet music. When you send a midi
patteren it doesn't send the sound information along with it only what
notes to play and when. Fruity loops cannout play the sounds of the
XL7 it is a different instrument. Of course you can (probablly) send
the patteren as midi data back to the XL7.

I Hope this helped. of course I could have totally guessed wrongly on
how you are using the XL7 and FL.

Re: Fruity Loops with XL7 (uploading/downloading)

I use Ableton Live. It has the disadvantage that it doesn't send
program change info (or it didn't I haven't checked to see if Live 6
does) but that doesn't bother me. Another good program is Cubase. I
own a version of it but rarely use it. I have heard a lot of good
things about Fruity loops as well.

I want to check out seq24 http://www.filter24.org/seq24/index.html but
I don't know much about it and I don't know if 'll have the time.
(BTW it's free) I don't know anything about it I can't even tell if it
is software only or can control external gear.

I am very partial to the built in sequencer on the XL7 and often just
sync Ableton Live to my XL7. after working on the XL7 I'll use
e-loader to import a sequence and then play it in live controling the
XL7.

cool i didnt know there was a windows version on seq24. prolly not the
answer u want but, there's a docs section on the seq24 page. i'd help
u more with it but i've only just installed it on my linux box a few
days ago. and i'm really just messing with PureData on my linux box atm.

an answer you might like is that Live 5 does send program change in
the clips in session view.
