Unfortunately, erase track leaves the light on (it's not quite smart
enough yet to decide whether you erased the whole track or not). If
you're trying to get rid of an entire track (as opposed to just a bar
range), try the "ERASE EVENTS/all track events" option. This allows you
to not only get rid of the light, but lets you delete more than one
track at a time...
Hmm... I just reread your post, and think I see the problem. Most
sequencers; actually, ALL that I've seen ('cept the XL-7 =) are not
capable of saving blank tracks in standard MIDI file format. What this
means is that any track you leave blank in Cubase gets deleted, and all
the other tracks slid up to cover the hole. Some sequencers (I think
Vision does this) allow you to name a blank track and they'll keep it
from being toasted. If Cubase isn't one of them, try inserting a text
event or a marker or something in the track that you want to be blank.
Then, when you save it, Cubase won't get rid of the track, and since the
XL-7 sequencer doesn't import text events (other than it's own), the
track should show up with the LED off. If none of this works, just
leave some data on the track and delete it on the XL-7 using the first
paragraph's tip...

Aaron,
If you draw in a "blank" part on the track you don't want, then save as
Type 0 MIDI file, Cubase won't "slide the tracks to cover the hole". Just
messing with this yesterday in fact...

I should have been more specific. I was referring to Type 1 SMF files. In Type 0 files, there is only one track (with up to 16 channels), and the "hole" you're seeing is an unused channel, not track. If you have any multi tracks, or have tracks not lined up with channels (i.e. trk1->ch3, trk2->ch1, etc), saving as a type 0 file will destroy this ordering. If you're using just the standard internal 1 to 1 mapping and aren't using external gear, you should be fine with type 0. -Aaron erik_magrini@... wrote:

Hehe, ok that makes more sense! My bad, I'll shut up next time. :)
