need help a.s.a.p.

2003-03-22 by sabree white

i just got my mp-7 with vers 1.32 today .i have afew questions for whoever can answer them because the manual I downloaded from emus website does'nt go in depth in song creation.(it told me nothing about song creation)so here we go
1.how do I assign sounds I want to use to pads????
2.if I put effects on a sound how can I save (or) just put it on a pad to put in my song???
3. how do i make multiple patterns(for bridges, beatdrops, chorus etc.) to compose a song so it wont just sound like a long dragged out loop???
4.if I mess up on a track(sequence)that I recorded how do I erase that track so I can do it over.
if anyone can help god bless you I need the help.
nycsabree Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

press Button CONTROLLERS then select LOCAL CONTROL ON

press the PRESET button and use DATA wheel to scroll thru presets

u can also use track +/- to select diff tracks

Press PATTERN use data wheel to select an empty pattern
u can name change lengths in PATTERN menu

U should save patterns as u go along ie

press SAVE use CURSOR arrows to step down menu
hit the FLASHING ENTER when happy

use the PATTERN menu which has loads of utility tools!
remember to SAVE SAVE SAVE!

patterns can be stitched together in song mode!

If u are just starting out it would also be wise to save
MULTI SETUPS ie

GLOBAL save setup etc

and stick to the same sounds on each pattern, grouping
patterns in a logical sequence

Hope this Helps

Silverman

ps The command station's logic is actually rather good
many functions operate with combinations of buttons, thus
making for a very speedy easy to use sequencer!.

I've found the best way to do that right now would be to use the 16 B
MIDI Channels and hit notes with the trigger buttons. I also assign
a good portion of the Programmable knobs to cc:7 for the B channels i
wanna use as pads.

> 2.if I put effects on a sound how can I save (or) just put it on a
pad to put in my song???

FX are a weird topic on the command stations right now. The layout
for them could use some work. You CAN save FX per preset, but the FX
engine of the command station can only process one FX preset at a
time, so in a typical pattern with 16 presets, only one can be active
at a time. This can cause problems. I've come to the conclusion
that my 16B midi channel will be my "master" FX channel in each
pattern i have. I just save a separate preset w/ FX settings per
pattern and use the FX on a global level. This way I can just flip
over to 16B and use the Quick edit knobs to do FX in realtime.

etc.) to compose a song so it wont just sound like a long dragged out
loop???

Idealy? Wait for OS 2.0 to come out in a couple weeks and use the X-
MIX feature. But for now just try to maximize the data on each
track, and get as much play from each one as possible. FX and filter
sweeps are good for transitions and stuff. Also, get used to the the
cut/copy paste feature.

that track so I can do it over.

Easy one. When in Real-time record mode, just hold down the erase
button and hit one of the 16 track buttons. This will automatically
erase it. The best feature of 1.32 IMO.
