Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

i do not have a xl7, but i am thinking about purchasing  one.  my local music 
store doesnt have one for me to play with, or anyone to answer my questios.   
so i figured why not talk to people who actualy use it.  i will be both performing 
live with it, and in a studio enviroment as well.  it looks great for in the studio, 
but is it a good live tool as well(i love ribbon controllers).?  i am also looking 
for something to control all of my other instuments as well.  i would like to be 
able to have a master sequencer, that tell all my other slave sequencers when 
to play.  i would also like to be albe to trigger additional drum boxes and 
keyboard.  can the xl-7 do it?  and how are the waveforms?  the expansion 
roms?  i do electro and techno.  i've never owned an emu product before, so i 
dont know how good there sound engines are.  is the sampler easy to use?

i know that was alot of questions, but i just cant find the info i want on this box.

At these latest prices, I don't know why anyone WOULDN'T run out to buy one
of these. I think you would be very happy. I could have bought two and a ROM
for what I paid.

why is the mp7 more expensice than the xl7...its the same exact box just with different 
sounds right?   if i were to get a xl7, can you purchase the mo phatt sound rom?   i cant 
find anything on the sound roms.

Yes same machine, different color, different sound-set. I have only been watching the prices on these for about a year. I picked up my XL7 right when the price for both hit $699. I negotiated a price including shipping of about $650 from PSSL. But, it has always seemed that the MP7 was more often out of stock than the XL7. I rarely see an MP7 on eBay. There is usually one or two XL7s available. And on eBay the MP7s definitely fetch more than the XL7. 

You can buy the XL7 for $499 at Musicians Friend now I believe, including shipping. As long as the mo phatt rom is available you could pick up the XL7 and search just for the mo phatt rom. Call all the internet stores PSSL, Sweetwater, etc. and tell them what you want. You would be surprised at how flexible they turn out to be regarding price. 

There are roms on eBay for sure although I don't think I have ever seen the mo phatt. Several of the other roms are always there and at sweet prices. I love eBay, but if you have not shopped there do your homework first. 

Also, wait until Monday or so for replies from others (experts, I'd call them) on the list.

yea u can..thats wut Im doing I got tha xl-7 for $500 brand new so Im 
waiting to buy tha Mo phat rom..

thanks for the info scott.  digitalbusta gave me a link to www.americanmusicsupply.com  
they have a xl7 with mo phatt rom installed for $719  it kinda solves alot of hassle for me.  
and its a sweet deal.

That's sweet as long as the XL Rom is still in there too.  :)  Might want 
to make sure of that....

You can put a Mo'Phatt ROM in you XL-7. It's called "Pure Phatt" 32 MB
expansion ROM and the part number is 9062.
