ques #1:Does it require that you have a midi interface to use the command
station? or its jus required if you are using the computer as a sequencer?

>>>The XX-7's are completely standalone units, so you don't need a midi
interface unless you are sequencing froma computer sequencer, or if you
need to update the OS. <<<

ques #2: why is it that the instructions for the E-loader only show images
of Mac OS and not a Windows based system? its not helping me b'cuz I have
a windows is there an alternate version?

>>>E-Loader will work with Windows systems just fine. In fact it works
better with Windows systems that it does Mac systems, as the Mac USB
drivers were never released. <<<<

ques #3: I was tryin to understand whut exactly the E-loader does..Does it
Save SMF only or does it save both Presets and SMF?

>>>Yes, saves your pattern and song data, which is essentially SMF plus
some set up data as well. Unfortunately, E-Loader does not support Preset
loading and saving, and likely never will (this sucks ass, I admit). You
can still back up your presets to the PC via sysex dumps to a software
sequencer though. <<<

ques #4: When I want to save my performance does XL-1/E-loader save in
real time to my computer or is it saving to tha command station memory
until I upload my saves to my computer?

>>>It will save to the Command Station first always. <<<

ques #5: How do I assign my own preset drum kit to the pads? is it
possible? or do I have to use a kit and its sounds "as is"? I currently
have an MPC2000xl and Im accustomed to assigning tha drums myself.

>>>Well, you can only use the kits as is in terms of the samples assigned
to them (is, you can't pick the drum samples you liek the most and make
you're own kits). There's numerous work arounds though, since you can
link more than one preset. Do a search in the list archives, plenty of
info on this from others. ,<<

OK cool..thankx..but Im still a lil confused bout saving presets

if I dont have a software sequencer how do I save my presets so I can
come back and work on my project?

If I jus have the Command station and a a PC and thas all. How am I
to save the presets? DO I have 2 buy one..? Is there a sysex preset
program I can get..?

I cant really get anymore than what I have I figure I can save
everything onto my computer then upload and download as needed to get
my presets and SMF files.. Im new to tha Command station obviously
and I want 2 be able to access everything to get started..if u know
of any software or stable freeware out there that will simplify this
process it would be greatly appreciated...its vital to what I need to
know to get started

Tanx..

The XL-7 has 512 user preset locations in addition to the 512 factory
presets. I think it'll take you a little while to use 'em all! You
really don't need a computer at all.

OK..does user presets mean my presets will be in the memory of tha
command station after I turn it off? or do I have 2 save all of my
prests on tha computer and load them there every time I turn it off
and on?

If you have two presets working, that means you've saved at least one of
them. Once a preset is saved, it's remembered even after you power the
machine off.

Or do you mean will it remember that you had one preset on track one and
another on track two? To do that, do a pattern save (to a new location, if
it's the first time you're saving.) The machine will remember the
information, even after you've turned it off.

Then, to get back to that setup of presets, load that pattern.

Right. You can get away with never using a computer. Ever. At the
moment, I've canibalized my music PC, as so far, I haven't missed it...

From the spec sheet:
1024 pattern locations
512 song locations
512 user presets
all in permanent flash memory just like a digital camera or a hard drive

That sounds about right.

Since Im gettin tha XL-7 are tha drum sounds coo for hip hop beats? I
know its for electronica musik but I like all kinds o sounds to use
and create plus I got tha command station for a cheap brand new so I
figure Id get "Mo Phatt" later

Are tha sounds heavy n full like are the bass sounds solid? strings
etc..
I know in electronic music they use 9o9 drums n sum 808. Are they
rich the sounds? I messed with a demo at tha store sounds were kinda
tight but I didnt hear them that well cuz they keep tha volume real
low..

Is there an EQ built in?

Obvious question: has anyone experienced a memory failure (on the XX-
7, not personally)? What are people using for backup on stage (or
elsewhere)? Or is everyone lugging along a laptop?
