THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP SO FAR, YOU HAVE BEEN GREAT !!

I accidently chose prompt 16 when i reinitialized my new MP-7 and
lost all my patterns and factory presents/songs... i downloaded
eloader and the files to reinstall them back into the mp-7. I am
having trouble getting the mp-7 and the pc to "see" each other so
the pc can send the files to the mp-7.
I am using a midi cable and connecting it to the mp-7 with the other
end connecting to the joystick port of the pc. Do i need a certain
software like ACID or CAKEWALK to get the pc to "see" the mp-7. If
someone could help me out i would REALLY appreciate it. I am brand
new to midi and have looked at EMU and other sites and its too far
over my head right now. I understand what to do i think when i can
get the midi communication going between the pc and the mp-7 but
cant figure out how to get them in sync to see each other. Software
needed? Thanks again and thanks for allowing me to join the group.
Hopefully i can help a newbie out one day. Midi is VERY confusing,
there has got to be an easier way :)

thanks,
Nick

Hey don't feel too bad.. I'm a complete and utter Midi newbie
myself, but have managed to stagger my way through things so far :).
What kind of soundcard do you use? I assume you're using a midi-to-
joystick-port adapter of some sort? Do you have an onboard sound
card in addition to one you're using?

If you're using any of the Soundblaster Live family, you should
have options in the drop-down menus for your Midi setup for
something like "SB Live! Midi Port [blahblah]". If you have these
options, select it for both in/out.

Fortunately, you don't need any additional software - E-Loader is
the only proggie you need to backup/transfer pattern, preset, and
song files and the like.

If you'd prefer to take the USB route, the XL-7 can communicate
via an average printer USB plug. I've yet to screw around with this,
since I've already got the midi setup working, but it might be
speedier and less hassle-ridden. Anyone else have input on this?
