What is this XLR modification to my Xpander?

What is this XLR modification to my Xpander?

2012-04-28 by Jeremy Smith

Hi Folks,

I recently noticed an XLR socket the far left of my Xpander, with a
little black on/off switch beside it.

I took photos of the inside and outside of my Xpander:

Does anyone know what this might be?

Thanks,

Jeremy.

I'd say that it is a transformer-balanced mono output with a groundlift.

Hi,

Just one more question!

Does the XLR output from my Xpander go to a Mic (eg, not Line level) XLR
socket on my mixing desk?

Thanks,

Jeremy.

Try both !

If the signal is way hot on the Mic input, use the PAD ( if available ) or connect to Line input.

i looked on the jensen site to see what the specks on that model are:

http://www.jensen-transformers.com/datashts/dbe.pdf

it looks to be a step down to mic level for D.I. on stage or something.

for a mic pre it is!

COOL!

as to line ( non mic ) applications some; people put line transformers inside on TX816's to make the outputs sound 'better' ( less 'dirty' and non linear in sound )...

transformers are rad!
