Xplorer, the long awaited editor for Xpander and Matrix-12 is now available

2012-05-11 by baumont987

Hi,

After a long time of development, Xplorer, the new editor for Xpander and Matrix-12, is now available

The main features of Xplorer are:

  • Single patch tone file load/save on disk
  • Modification of the 226 parameters of a single patch
  • Real-time MIDI automation for all parameters with freely assignable control changes, even for filter modes (except Modulation Matrix)
  • Copy/paste page for TRACK, ENV, LFO, and RAMP pages (e.g., you can copy all ENV1 page parameters and paste them to ENV3)
  • Rename patch, go to patch, store patch, save patch to disk
  • Real-time update of all parameters when the user tweaks the synthesizer knobs (dual editing can be done without needing to reload the patch and resynchronize the synthesizer and the PC as most editors need to do)
  • Patch randomizer (generates a new patch from random values)
  • Auto-sized user interface depending on system's default font size
  • Touch screen support
  • …and more to come in the next releases.

Detailed information, technical specification, audio & video demos available here: http://xplorer-editor.com

Cheers

Price is 14.99€ / less than 20US$, lifetime free update.

No iOS version planned, but you can already use an iPad to remote control a PC (see iTap, Remote Desktop Lite,etc..), thus Xplorer.

Currently evaluating the effort to port it natively to MAC OSX (can already be used using Parallels, VirtualBox or BootCamp).

Please ask further questions to Xplorer forums,
Thanks,

I think for the most part, thats largely
impossible James. Too many years of
Apple brainwashing musicians to think
that talent only exists within the realm
of their products...

I've said it a thousand times before and I'll say it
again...Its not about the tools that you use, its
about what you DO with those tools that counts.

I just noticed that this software only supports circular mode for control movement? that's insane. touchscreens are not common enough yet for most users to be using them in a studio environment. And even with a touchscreen (e.g. iPad) circular mode is still wonky. most people are used to linear up/down movements either with a mouse or a finger. Just about every music/synth app I have on my iPad is linear control for all control objects.

unfortunately I won't be buying this software. bummed.

I just noticed that this software only supports circular mode for control movement?

Oops !

most people are used to linear up/down movements either with a mouse or a finger.

That\ufffds correct.

Should be fixed ASAP !

The big rubber feet

2012-05-26 by Terje Winther

Hi all,
Thanks a lot for all the input on this list. I have repaired a
Matrix-12 some time ago, but not everything is tip-top, so I am doing
a second round of service on it.
Once again I am looking for rare parts, but seem to have located most
of them thanks to this list.
But what about those extrordinary big rubber feet?
The one I have here has only 1 of the four original feet still in
place, and they are BIG. I have tried locating something, but nothing
comes even close to the size. One could argue that it doesn´t really
matter; it is just a rubber feet that no-one will ever see, but
remember that this is a big synth, so it should have big feet as well.
Any ideas for what I can use, or where I can find something? (I don´t
expect to find any original rubber feet)
I tried furniture shops, but the rubber feet they have are either too
small (both in diameter and height), or they are long, but too thin,
and most of all they are often too hard, while the original Oberheim
rubber feet are somewhat softer.

Hi Terje,

A couple of my M12's feet fell off and I did not worry about it cause I had it
on a stand.
But I placed it on a table for awhile and it did not take long before crazy
stuff started appearing on the display along with tune fails etc.
After some troubleshooting I realized the flexing of the bottom was
causing the large circuit boards inside to flex and cause fails.
After puting the missing feet back on everything was fine.

After a bit of digging I found this:

http://www.westfloridacomponents.com/HW305APF10/Clear+Recessed+Rubber+Bumper+Doorstop+46mm+x+15.2mm.html

The dimensions are almost identical but it's clear. I would think there are
black ones out there somewhere.
Maybe the originals are doorstops also.

Best

Karl

Hi Karl,
Thanks a lot - just what I needed!
Unfortunately the company based in Florida (?) didn´t sell to Europe, but through their site I was able to find the original manufacturer, and sourced a reseller in England that sold them at a higher price through eBay, but shipment is cheaper, so it adds up OK.
Yes, an interesting thought: it could be that the original feet are doorstops too, because they are much bigger than anything else I see underneath synths or keyboards.

Hi Doug,

My Matrix-12 is actually missing just one of those rubber feet. Can I buy one from you?

Hope all is well,
Howie
