RE: [yamahacs80] feedback please!

2005-05-13 by rlmusic

Hi Max

Your developer should contact me so we can repair/restore the CS80 for him -
I am based in the UK.

A fully restored CS80 is something to behold. Currently, between my
restorer and myself, we have 9 x CS80's in various states of restoration but
certainly 5 fully restored and awaiting collection from customers from all
over Europe so we have a good "feel" for the instrument, you might say. The
problem with modeling is starting from a good base point. I personally have
worked with a number of software companies when covering/developing vintage
synthesizers and it's always interesting to know how they represent an
instrument as characteristic as this genre represents. The Minimoog is a
great example as every single one I have ever sold has sounded different so
when modeling one then I always wonder which one is it modeled on?

Fortunately, the CS80 is more (relative) consistent than the Moog but a
thousand times more expressive which to date, I have not experienced from
the Arturia software although I do own the CS80V and think it is a nice
polysynth plug-in.

If your people are considering/working an update to the CS80V and would like
to have there original instrument restored correctly then you/they are
welcome to contact me or my restorer directly but for the purposes of this
forum then this should be done directly - rlmusic@...

David - thanks for the opportunity to express this and apologies if this
seems off-topic somewhat.

Regards

Hi Richard

Actually they own a CS-80, it's the developer's own, but it suffers from
some troubles with ribbon and needs tuning and calibration for filters and
envelopes....BTW, I'm asking all these things for personal knowledge too.

What I can say for CS-80 is that it suffers from sort of a "weak" filter
signal, I think that an appropriate softclipping code must be added to
filter's algorithm!

Considering the sophisticated modeling nature of a plug-in I would have
through the manufacturers (Arturia) of this would at least own real CS80 to
start with.

This might explain why the CS80V sounds nothing remotely like the
original.geeze.

I don't think an MP3 will help Dave.

Max,

Why are you putting these files in the CS-80 group? There's already a
CS-80v Yahoo group. Most people here don't have the CS80v software. If
you wanted people to compare the sound of the two, it would make more
sense to upload sample/mp3 files.

I don't have a problem with the CS80v program - I think it's actually a
great idea. However, you should have let people know that that it why
you have been asking all the technical questions the last few weeks.
Whether or not you are getting any money for your work on this, it's
still working on developing a commercial product, and people should know
this when helping you.

David
