Question: Is the fat brass solo in the song "Sunset Grill" by Don Henley played on a CS80? I know it couldn't be a Minimoog, as it has a very vocal quality. Anyone?

I love that song and that synth-brass solo! Doesn't sound like CS80 to me. A quick search found this site: http://www.answers.com/topic/building-the-perfect-beast. It doesn't list the keyboards used, but it does list about a dozen session keyboardists. It could be anything. It came out in the mid '80s. Sounds like some string/brass machine, like an Opus 3 or and Arp Quartet. Of course, I thought John Paul Jones synth brass solo on "All of My Love" was some cheap brass synth, and then I found out it was a GX-1 (which brings us back on-topic)! Ok - I just listened to it again. It does have a 2-pole filter sound, and Steve Porcaro is one of the keyboardists, so maybe it is a CS80. Then I find another link (http://groups.google.com/group/alt.guitar/browse_frm/thread/ef0f51f8a83f55e6/f427c2c85e717fd5?) that sounds like the solo is a guitar synth. Anyone know? David

I really love this song too, but feel the solo in question betrays some phrasing more typical of the guitar, and to kind of substantiate this I found something on this website (don't ask me why it's got fleetwood mac in the URL): http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/songs.php?sid=351

Danny (Kootch) Kortchmar (Synthesizer Guitar (Horn) Solos),
It would still be fun to learn to play it on a CS.

Ha, so I'm not the only one. When I first heard it I thought it was a Crumar Orchestator, it sounded sounded so cheap.

Heh... and I was sure I had it pegged as an ARP Pro Soloist (a la Tony Banks). Live and learn! -Tim S. <Minneapolis> Quoting oasysfan2 <bgarratt@...>:
