CS-80 on CP-70?

CS-80 on CP-70?

2008-03-21 by alt-mode

Hi,

I'm new to the group and I'm dealing with the rather weighty (pun
intended) decision to get a CS-80. With any beast like this, fitting
it into the right place in the studio is a heavy (OK, I'll stop with
the puns now) decision.

I'm considering setting the CS-80 on top of a Yamaha CP-70 electric
grand. Eddie Jobson had his on top of a CP-70 back in the day but I
don't know if he had some special stand made for the CP-70 to deal
with the extra weight. There is also the issue of making sure that
there is air circulation underneath the CS-80. I think this can be
handled by raising the CS up on blocks or angling it a bit forward.
I'm less concerned about this than I am with just the weight on the
CP-70.

Does anyone have any experience with putting a CS-80 on a CP-70? Am I
crazy to be considering this arrangement?

Thanks,
	Eric

as an owner, i cant imagine having mine on anything other than a stand like the original(im lucky to have the original). itll probably make sense when you get yours-its the most playable synth ive ever had. standing up would really blow, IMO. best of luck.

Re: CS-80 on CP-70?

Hi
i own a CS80 and CP80
i wanted to try to put the cs on the top of the cp, but, to me, it was
not nice watching, neither easy to play, since the CS80's case is very
thick, so it'd make the same as putting a case under a synth, on the
top of the piano (for exemple, i think putting a matrix 12 on the top
of the CP is much more nice and practical)
about eddie jobson, well, i remember thinking the same, and while
watching the picture in the booklet of night after night (live in
japan) you could see the stand under is different)
i believe after he had the CS in front of the cp after (with jethro tull)

Re: [yamahacs80] CS-80 on CP-70?

2008-03-21 by Tim Siefkes

I tried it once or twice when I still had my CP-70, but it did seem
rather unwieldy. I liked it much better keeping the CS-80 on it's own
stand, and I also made some custom wooden blocks to get the CS-80 an
inch or so higher for playing while standing up. Putting the Rhodes
Chroma on top of the CP-70 was a much better arrangement.

I think this should be no problem for the CP-70 but it could be quite intimidating to look at. Also, you ought to make sure that the ground underneath the CP-70 is *really* solid... I wouldn´t try it on wooden floors...

Thanks for all of the quick replies. This is a very active and
supportive group!

I think my basic question has been answered, that yes it will work as
long as the floor underneath is stable. I currently have a Nord
Modular G2X and an Oberheim Xpander on top of the CP-70 and they work
pretty well there but I understand that the thickness and overall
height of the CS can be a bit much. This may also buy me time to make
more room in another space in the studio to set the CS on its own.

Thanks again for the input!

I have raised my CS80 3 inches on a rolling computer rack.....it makes
the Keys 8 inches lower than my elbows and allows for rack gear below
and boards above on the half lid.......

RE: [yamahacs80] CS-80 on CP-70?

I did this for about 5 years when I had both units (I still have the
CP-70). I just used a double thick bath towel between the two to
prevent scrapes, noises, etc. It always seemed stable enough on a
carpet-covered concrete floor.

I remember seeing footage of Prince dancing on his CP-70 during a
concert, and while Price probably only weighs half what a CS-80 does
(let's consider the CS-80 as a new unit of weight measurement), the
extra force of the dancing seemed to have no effect. The CP-70 is
strong!

OT Paia Grand Piano

2008-03-22 by rorymcd@mac.com

A bit OT but I thought some of you might enjoy seeing this.
It is a PAIA CV keyboard that I took and built a miniature grand
casing around.
This was done for a community theatre production of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN,
CHARLEY BROWN,
for Schroeder's piano, of course.
The piano was built to allow a full size man to stand on it.
The synthesizer is fully functional, but it wasnt used that way in the
show.
I might add gold lettering in front that says SCHULZ just to add a
touch to it.
Maybe I will use it as a controller and stand for my Paia 4700 Modular.

Here is the link:

Enjoy!

I know you've done some beta testing for them, is Sonic Core
considering it?

Hopefully, you are aware, I assembled that picture as a way to explain
away the myth of the inability to fit the control of a CS80 on an ASB
unit...I also took a picture of a Prodyssey next the CS80 preset
"hatch" to show that the 4 mixes of programming sliders on the
original could fit almost twice across a single present ASB
surface....

One of the SonicCore people said they will definately consider it ,and
2 days later they (when I replaced Creamware logos with SonicCore)
said okay,we will start Monday, and quized me on the reason for the
placement of the ribbon and the dual patch memory structures.....

I have an Oberheim eight-voice on my CP-70m, which works good. Wouldn't
put anything heavy on the CP if I didn't have the leg braces though.
