CS60s in Keyboard mag

CS60s in Keyboard mag

2010-02-21 by David Rogoff

Hi all.

We've had a couple of issues in a row with Yamaha CS60s! In the new issue, Phish keyboardist Page McConnell is featured and they show his nice vintage touring rig, including a CS60. I guess a CS80 would have collapsed the Rhodes it's sitting on :)

http://keyboardmag.com/article/phish-preview-exclusive/February-2010/108341 (video doesn't seem to be working at the moment)

Also, a couple of issues back, they had a teenage girl into synths with a CS60: http://skylarthomas.com/gear.html
Good video of her playing Frankenstein live. Prophet-08, not CS60 live, but you don't see a lot of 15-year-old girls playing Edgar Winter!

Thanks for that David - having played Edgar Winters 'Frankenstein' myself many, many years ago (actually it has just been resurrected for a new venture I'm part of!) it reminded me that I had, somewhere an old Mpeg of a crappy little video of us playing it.

I've uploaded that to YouTube. No CS's were involved unfortunately, so it is kind of O/T - but I hope its of interest anyway...;c)

Good stuff Tom! However - the 15 year-old girl smoked you on the high-res filter sweep part :)
Oh - and I'm declaring Frankenstein on topic for any synth-related discussion!

Check out the girls website:

and listen to her OZZY Tribute band videos. She is using the Yamaha CS-60. You can here the ribbon slide on Crazy Train and also uses the CS-60 through all the songs along with Mr. Crowley too. I think the original Mr. Crowley was recorded with a CS-80.

The girl rocks! I see an early future for her.

Good tone and good playing, Tom! Hey, is that an L-100?

No that particular one is a converted M100 - made to 'behave' like an L100 - so I could do the Emerson train and daggers thing!

Damn it was heavy... I now use actual L100's. They are a lot lighter and sound different, with a more authentic 'NICE' tone.

I own two L100's and also a C3.

Cheers,
TOM
