Group six years old!

Group six years old!

2010-08-07 by David

I just noticed that I started this group six years ago (technically August 10). Quite a lot happened since then. I originally started it because I hadn't owned a CS80 since 1995 (my second and only had it for about a year - they old went for about $1000 then - in perfect shape with all accessories!). I was thinking of buying one that needed fixing and thought I'd start this group to find other crazy fans and also some technical help.

I found quite a bit of both. I would have never gotten the beast all working without the help of several folks, especially Kent Spong! I've met a bunch of great people, including some actually in person. I've also had about 7 CS80s in and out of my house in the last few years (not counting the one that just arrived and the one I'm picking up tomorrow - and possibly another CS80 and a CS60 in the near future). I've done various repairs, tunings, and installed three Kenton MIDI kits (all worked fine - knock on Tolex).

With the way Yamaha built these things (like tanks), and how much they're worth now, I will probably be working on them for many years to come.

Thanks everyone. I haven't been very CS80-ish the last several months, other than seeing U.K. a few weeks ago - and spotting all the places where Eddie can't quite get his setup to copy the original beast 100% :)

That should change in about 30 minutes when Arun's CS80 gets dropped off here after its cross-country trip. It will be get all the CMOS chips replaced/sockets, caps replaced, bulbs replaced, Kenton MIDI installed, and general tuning and calibration.

That's my summer plans!

FYI, the message Arun was replying to is almost 2 years old. If you look on the main page, you'll see the group started in August 2004 (August 10 to be exact), so we're almost 8 years old! Maybe I'll make a CS80 cake :)
