I sent Steve Kondel $40 or something and marked it as a gift instead of goods (he insisted I mark it as a gift because he was terrified of the paypal fees - I know, stupid) and have still not received a master tune potentiometer when he is only one state away. I sent him his money on the 18th of last month. I called him on May 26 and he told me that he would get it in the mail on the next day USPS was open. -Mike

I got what I asked for after 15 days (to Italy) All excellent items, excellent packing. Not too friendly as to the invoice, indeed. I paid a huge amount of $$$ as customs taxes... :-( F Il giorno 04/giu/2011, alle ore 23.16, Mike ha scritto: > I sent Steve Kondel $40 or something and marked it as a gift instead of goods (he insisted I mark it as a gift because he was terrified of the paypal fees - I know, stupid) and have still not received a master tune potentiometer when he is only one state away. Sorry about the customs $$$. In order to insure the package I had to put a high price on the declared value. Steve

yeah, well the package has to be insured. Im willing to help people out as much as possible. I wouldnt complain about not being able to do illegal things. If you think I would ship $650 worth of CS parts across the world without insuring it, thats nuts.

This has been a point I have thought over long and hard ever since I was also stung by UK customs on something I thought an unfair and excessive charge. OK, you can buy CS parts and have them shipped - and by their very nature you would want them insured as they are rare and costly - BUT... is there no loop-hole, such as if the item is deemed 'broken' (like a box full of spares 'legally' could be) then no (or very little) tax needs to be paid? Just a thought.. Cheers, TOM --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, "dzlvs8@..." <dzlvs8@...> wrote:

You might want to declare them as "computer component parts". To my knowledge (which is little) you do not have to pay customs duties or import taxes for these items. Stephen

> This has been a point I have thought over long and hard ever > since I was also stung by UK customs on something I thought > an unfair and excessive charge. If you think you're being stung on imported goods, consider that you pay 20% on top of virutally everything you buy inside the UK. People only seem to get upset about VAT when they are aware of it. If you buy an item for £100, it's really only cost you £83, and uk.gov get £17 for allowing you to spend the money you already paid income tax on. The only thing you can do legally about 'unfair and excessive' taxation, is to get into politics, win power, and pursue a drastic reduction in state spending. Good luck with that ! > OK, you can buy CS parts and > have them shipped - and by their very nature you would want > them insured as they are rare and costly - BUT... is there no > loop-hole, such as if the item is deemed 'broken' (like a box > full of spares 'legally' could be) then no (or very little) > tax needs to be paid? There is no loophole. If goods are being imported into the EU for the first time, they are liable for VAT (and possibly duty) based on their monetary value. If you can persuade a seller to declare a lower value than they're worth, you will save on the VAT/duty, but there is no benefit to the seller, and they take a risk of being found to be involved in tax evasion if it turns out the goods were worth more. It seems innocuous to under-value a few old synth parts, but there are many scams and frauds attempted through import/export that HMRC are always on the lookout for, and they take a dim view of any illegal activity. It's just not worth the trouble for a small business to get on their radar. Cheers, Colin f

My policy is that it's up to the buyer to choose to insure their goods or not. Obviously they are waiving any indemnity if the goods arrive damaged or not at all. In the past I have requested that the value of an item be listed on a customs declaration as much lower to avoid taxes but know that I am also taking a big risk not insuring the item, & I have done the same for buyers of my gear. That's just the way it is. FYI Niegel, I think ur the same Niegel that bought one of my voice cards on ebay. Ebay and paypals policy is thst it is the sellers responsibility to get the item to the buyer in the condition described. If it was up to the buyer to pay shipping, I would be able to sell my non working Korg Polysix as new and in working condition and not have to worry about anything once it arrived with the buyer not as described.

Yup, i agree with what nigel said, thats my way of thinking too. One caveat though, ebay is a murky place, often as a seller i find buyers will not want to pay for any shipping insurance and tell you that its ok to ship without insurance. Of course the problem with that is that if the package gets lost, or the item arrives broken, the buyer will more than likely file a paypal claim against me for a full refund and Paypal will almost certainly take the buyers side regardless of the fact that insurance was not requested / paid for.... Ive not been burnt like that yet, but it is a concern. I do pretty much insist that any large parcel i send going overseas is posted with fedex or ups though, with tracking and proof of delivery- and i always pack gear up really carefully to avoid any rough handling. Btw, i shipped my Cs80 from the US seller to the UK, declared as $50 broken keyboard ;) (that was about 5 years ago though- im not sure id risk that again)

On a side note, I am selling the rest of my CS50 for $425 (including shipping in the US) on ebay. It doesnt include the voice cards, kas board, or pra board, but pretty much everything else is there....if anyone needs some spare parts. Im getting sick of looking at a destroyed cs in my house. Its depressing. I just want the rest gone.

Steve, Is there any particular reason why you won't address me or ship my stuff? Where is my stuff? If anybody cares, here is an e-mail he sent me that starkly contrasts the professional demeanor he is trying to project in this thread. -Mike --- Mon, May 16, 2011 6:37:39 PM Hi Mike, I can sell the double pots forthe tunning. If you live in the US I can sell them to you for $40, including shipping. If you need the tunning knobs too that would be extra. In regards to the KAS board, thats the one thing that kind of isnt available for sale. The KAS board is in need of IC24 (its in the lower right hand corner of the board. I shorted it out a few weeks ago while I was replacing all of the other IC's on the board. I tested all the new ICs in my other CS50 after the zapping incident and they all still worked fine. I then took my entire working KAS board out of my good CS50 and put it in the CS50 that I just zapped and the CS50 was working perfectly. My plan was to upgrade the CS50 with new ICs and then sell it so I could use the money as part of a down payment on my new Cadillac CTS. I dont really have the time and dont want to spend the effort to figure out what IC24 is and I dont want to spend the time to replace it since i can part this think out for way more than I can sell it for anyway. Soooo, hopefully you get the drift. If you would like the KAS board, I will sell it to you. But you do need to replace IC24. That is all you should have to replace. All the resistors near by are all still fine and all the other chips tested out good. I can sell you the KAS board for cheap since it requires repair. I will sell you the KAS board for $150. If you are interested, you can send the money to my paypal account. It is dzlvs8@.... However, you have to send the money as a gift or send me some extra money to cover the paypal fees. Another guy sent me $670 for some of the CS50 parts and he didnt send it as a gift and paypal took $28 of the money he sent me. Therefore, I never saw the actual $670. >:( If you send me some money, let me know. Or if you want to talk live, give me a call. But you do need to repl [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Professionals actually ship stuff when people pay them. Since you're having trouble with details, I called you and begged you to send me my stuff so I could complete a CS60 on Thursday the 26th of May (not last week like your post implies) after I paid you on the 17th of May! Mike and Steve and anyone else - this group is not the place for people to argue over business deals. One or two posts to ask the group about getting in touch with people is fine, but this is too much. Any more of this and I'll just start deleting posts and change people's posting status to require moderator approval. Thanks, David - who is way too busy with other stuff to worry about this

Hi Mike, I have the dual tune pot and if you need any other CS parts just let me know. I know I've shipped you parts before. Doug synthparts.com --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, "Mike" <mborish_2000@...> wrote:

Doug, On a side note, I think you may have bought a broken polysix from me before. I either sold it to you or the synth spa. Cant remember. Well, yet again I bought another polysix and this one also has battery leakage like the last one and this one doesnt work. If you are interested in it, let me know. Steve

I trade a working PRA Board for a KBC board. Anyone interested? I shall not sell it for money, just swap it for other boards I need... Fernando

As to the VCF adjustment procedure reported by Yamaha for the CS-80, I have some considerations / questions for those who already faced such a task. 1) In HPF cutoff freq & resonance adj: I guess the waveform indicated in the specifications of complete VCF alignment procedure is wrong! IMHO the right one should be the one drawn in the chapter "specifications of VCF alignment when only some of VCF ICs are changed", in that a pure sinusoidal wave can only be obtained when adjusting the LPF. Am I wrong? 2) As regards the diagram amplitude, the values of 4.3 ± 1Vpp for HPF and 2.2 ± 1Vpp, respectively, are reported. My question: was it meant to be really ± 1Vpp or ± .1Vpp ? Any help appreciated: I think it is important for all list members who want to afford such a problem! [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
