Anyone going to NAMM? Things to look for?

Anyone going to NAMM? Things to look for?

2013-01-23 by David

Hi all!

I managed to get a NAMM pass!!! I was planning on going Friday afternoon and maybe on the weekend. Anyone else going to be there?

Looks like Korg is coming out with a new version of the MS-20 that is all analog! Plus adds MIDI. Come on Yamaha; where's the new CS-80???

Of course, I'll check out all the "boutique" analog and modular guys and the bigger companies too - although they're just VA now. The Buchla synths are always amazing and I got to talk with Don a bit a couple of years ago.

Anyway, if you're going or know of cool stuff to check out there, let me - and all of us - know!

 David

ps - should I bring one of the CS80s I'm working on and roll it around on a big cart with a generator and PA :)

Ha! If you decide to do that David, I'd be there like a shot to help you..! That would be classic...;c)

By the way, what's the name of the new MS20..? I'd like to 'Google' it!

Cheers,
TOM

New version of Buchla Music Easel. Should be interesting to say the least -

New Prophet 12 from Dave Smith -

Not sure, but looks like oscillators are VA but filter is real analog.

New Moog I-Can't-Get-Myself-to-type-the-name analog synth -

Can they please put a 3rd VCO and a 4-octave keyboard on this???

The Korg Mini MS-20

Arturia Mini Brute -

I really wish these guys had a bunch more engineers and programmers so they could finish and upgrade all the great ideas they have.

I don't see anything interesting, synth-wise from Yamaha or Roland.

I'm making sure my camera batteries are charged up for tomorrow!

Hi David, if you really plan to do that, be sure to have somebody with a camera to shoot it and drop it on youtube
have a nice visit and give us some feedback please.

It was a joke, although it would be fun to try!

Might be more appropriate to put on some hospital scrubs and wheel it around on a gurney! At the very least, this would stand as a more accurate demonstration of the CS80's main "feature" as a fussy 35-year-old synth. ;)

Thanks for the NAMM updates, David. I gotta say, with its $599 list price, that Mini MS-20 strikes me as a no-brainer, even if it ends up suffering from a VCA section that's a bit too clean for its own good, as modern analogs often do.
