Hmmm... just have your WIFE open it.... ;^P

Once in college I had another (very obnoxious) student INSIST I fix
his TV. I told him I didn't DO tv's and didn't have the equipment. It
was an "all tubes light... no picture" scenario. So I opened the "HV
box"...and asked HIM to "wiggle that little black cap on that big tube
to see if its loose".

Several seconds later he was sitting in the "comfy chair", several feet away.
I asked him what happened. he replied "I think I got a shock". I said "well
I guess the HV is OK...."

(of course I expected he would not DIE from the affair...just learn respect
for high voltage. We've all been hit once.... ;^)

He got the point and did not ask for repair assistance again.

The REAL problem was that the set had a mechanical "turn off timer" with the
knob broken off... long forgotten by the owner. After he ditched the set..
some
other students got it... and discovered the hole where the knob was...and got
curious. Vibration from moving the set freed the timer... allowing it to kill
the
HV to the rest of the set.

Tee Hee.
