[200e] re:starting a system advice

2007-04-08 by Richard Lainhart

Matt: to start with, the system modules you have listed below add up
to 8 panel units (the 227e and 250e are both 2 units), so you're over
the limit for the 6-panel boat. I also don't think it's essential to
have the 227e in a small system like this, as you can easily patch
the audio outputs from any module directly into an external mixer - I
think the 227e is more useful in a larger system.

The 210e is also less essential, I think - it's really designed to
route audio and control voltages to different destinations, and is
most useful as a way to be able to store and recall cable routings
with the use of the 225e Preset Manager. Because you can stack
control voltage cables, and you have some audio multiples in the
system already, and won't have a 225e, I think you could better use
the space for other modules.

The 250e, the 261e, 266e, and 291e are all good choices for what you
want to do, and bring you up to 5 panels. You might want to consider
the 297 as an additional effects processor (particularly for "aquatic
fx"), or another 261e so you have more audio sources for
cross-modulation. The 260e might be a good alternative to the 261e,
as it's also an audio generator, but it's perhaps a little more
limited than the 261e.

The 281e Quad Function Generator is essentially 4 envelope generators
- good for envelope-type control voltages, obviously, but perhaps
less useful without the 292e Quad Dynamics Manager (basically, 4 VCAs
with filters). They're both essential in a larger system, of course.
