222e Module + Touchpad Photos

2006-01-23 by Damon Menne

I posted, under an alter ego, photos I took @ NAMM of the 222e.

It's pretty incredible. Super, super sensitive.

It's too bad that the preset manager is tied into the MIDI decoder
module; now, if one gets the 222e to control the system and doesn't need
to use MIDI, he'll have to buy the MIDI module anyway to use the preset
manager section of it.

It would have been cool if the 222e included a preset manager section
also.

Or at least have 1 memory to remember the current settings like the
darf does.

Luther,

Because of the unique cv/trigger/gate specs of the Buchla, it would be
easier to use an Analogue Systems AS300 analog-to-midi module to
interface other analog equipment to the 200e than to try to convert
your other synths to the Buchla convention. After years of trying to
interface Arp and Serge systems to the Buchla, my opinion is that you
tend to use up all of your processing modules interfacing the systems
to the Buchla. Midi offers you a simple way to get to the 200e....

I do understand the merits of having a midi module offered for the 200e.
However, since the 222e uses CV one could certainly use the 200e as a (very
full-featured) stand-alone machine, and the midi module wouldn't be needed.
My main point was just that, if you were going to use the 200e this way, you
would still need to buy the midi module (and take up a whole panel unit)
just to be able to save presets, which is something that's quite valuable.
Just a tiny nitpick of an amazing system...

For the same reason of panel space, I hope they make a simpler mixer
module (system interface) that's a panel wide, with maybe 2 inputs
and the follower. On a 12 panel boat, using 2 for four channels of
mixing is a headache & overkill.

dont count on a single panel 200e mixer...

207 and 206 mixers still pop up for sale from time to time and would serve this purpose

A couple of the Buchla employees at NAMM echoed that it's a good idea
because of the 12 panel boats. What's your source for "don't count

I have a quick sec to expand on my previous response,

the 200e has several existing facilities for mixing.... single panel mixers already in production include the 210e Control and Signal Router which includes a Matrix Mixer as well as the 292e Quad Dynamics Manager can be used as a Mixer (even a VC mixer with the velocity inputs) on top of its Gating and Filtering functions.

these 2 single panel 200e mixers, the abundance of exisiting 200 series mixers that are compatable with the 200e and the lastly the 227e are my basis for previous comments.

by the way, I didnt say it wasnt a good idea.. just not to count on it happening.

Re: [200e] Re: 222e Module + Touchpad Photos

2006-01-30 by Jason Butcher

I think it's pretty unlikely Don would design and
build a single space system interface for the 200e.
Keep in mind an original 227 occupies four spaces.
It's pretty remarkable for Don to have squeezed it
down into 2 spaces for the 227e to begin with.

Personally I think of the 12 space cabs best utilized
as expanders for existing modular set-ups or original
200 systems, as it's difficult to fit many of the
essential 200e modules into 12 spaces. If that is the
case, one might be able to do without a 227
altogether.

You can always utilize a 210 or 292 for mixing needs
in a smaller system as well.

Jason
