Speakers for 200e ?

Speakers for 200e ?

2013-03-02 by dimitrios otis

Any recommendation on cheap spkrs -- I'm looking to have a quad sound --
for the 200e? I had KRK's before--awesome, but now my budget is way low --
like 50 bucks a spkr. Can I get into anything with that?? Thanks,

In that price range the only ones I can think of is Kurzweil KS40A,
They are good considering the price,

Thanks, Johan, will check those out --- it's becoming clear I will have to
start with 2 speakers.

Hi,

I've been in a similar situation. Since space was a big concern for me, I decided that looking at typical powered studio monitors just wasn't going to work. As an alternative I decided to check out what the PC/multimedia world had to offer.

I live near an Apple store so I took an afternoon to check out the various makes and models on display. Since lugging my Buchla down to the store seemed like it might not be such a good idea, I settled for the iPods that they had hooked up to each set of speakers as my sound source.

I eventually decided on purchasing a pair of Bose Computer MusicMonitor for $269. They are an *excellent* fit with the Buchla! They have a very small footprint and pack quite a punch (they can get LOUD). The sound is fantastic, nice smooth highs and surprisingly thick and *detailed lows*. During my comparisons in the store, the main difference that started to become apparent between the lower priced vs. higher priced speakers was how well they handled lower frequencies. The cheaper models got *very* muddy sounding in the low end and lost all detail, especially when the volume was raised higher than "normal" listening level. Whereas the higher priced models kept the bass completely intact. They also had a certain clarity or definition (overall) that the cheaper models lacked.

So, anyone out there looking for dedicated speakers for their Buchla... There is an alternative to the studio monitors that most of us are accustomed to. You might want to explore the option of multimedia/PC speakers before making any final decisions.

Regards,
John

Wow... thanks big time Prototek -- I was actually wondering if the

Helo,

a nice opportunity to introduce myself in this group, I have just joined -- must admit that I am still waiting for the delivery of a used 200e, but I do have some experience with Bose speakers -- a smaller footprint version though.

I am using the Companion 2, small multimedia speakers. They are very nice to work with -- but color the sound considerably. Everything sounds very *nice* -- and the low end is muddy as described.

the bigger speakers might behave differently, but I believe that Bose in general are known to make everything sound better -- which might not always be the best solution for mixing, although jamming is a totally different story...

just my experience, hope this helps you get a broader picture...

Kai

Kai,

hey, thanks for the input--definitely valuable as I want to get 4 very
small footprint spkrs for some low-key performance situations. meanwhile, I
was donated a solid harmon-kardon amp and sony speakers along with a pair
of yamaha NS 10's (common reference spkrs) so at home I am all set up with
4 channels and sounds plenty decent enough.

But on to your imminent acquisition of a 200e -- AWESOME! They really are
the bomb--do AMAZING things! So, whatcha getting? I have a 12-cabinet, got
11 panels full and just waiting for this ZOe module from Cyndustries. I
have no preset or MIDI modules--I just use the traditional capability, but
I feel I get more modulation bang for my buck this way!

I'm in Ontario (Canada) by the way -- hoping to connect with some other
users at some point, also might be in to trades/ buy and sell. I'm not
convinced the Dual Arbitary Function Generator (250e - ?) is for me (tho' I
barely know how to use it yet!)

Guess that's senough of that -- but btw I am not actually in the Buchla
group right now, there was some glitch w/ email and I am having to
re-join....

Thanks again for the mssge Kai--feel free to keep me posted on yr machine,
I'm very interested!
