One thing about the HP-50G: there are a lot of modes and settings and different ways to do things that will affect how you do things. I will assume, for this explanation, that you have set flag 117 to use SOFT menus instead of CHOOSE menus. Do that first, please. (Press MODE, then F1 to get to FLAGS, then scroll down and make sure that flag 117 is set to "SOFT menu", then OK and OK.) Now most (but not all) of the menus will present themselves on the menu line instead of popping up a box; you can choose items with one of the top row of keys, the F-keys, F1 through F6. There's a lot of useful things this allows you to do, which the CHOOSE-menus will not allow, which you will find out about later. How you run the program depends on the particular program and what the programmer wanted to do. Some programs attach themselves to the APPS menu, in which case, press APPS and pick it from the list. If your does not appear in the APPS list, it may be a LIBRARY, in which case, press the orange RIGHT-SHIFT key, then the 2 key, to get to the LIB menu. Now the attached libraries will be displayed on the menu line. Look for the library you attached. If you don't see it, press NXT until you do. If you find it, press the key for that menu item, and the commands from that library should be displayed. Now you can press one of the F-keys to run the command. (You may have to have some items on the stack if the command is a math operation or something like that.) If you DON'T find it, it's possible the program was not a LIBRARY, which means it was either a DIRECTORY, or simply a PROGRAM, in which case you have to do something else; let me know. -- Dave Boyd "If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Hello, This calculator's learning curve is steep... =) so I am trying to install this program: http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=4394 the 2KX version has a 'program' file of *.hp so what do I do? I tried moving the file from my SD card to the HOME directory. so when I go to the Home Directory, I have a "FORMO" button (but along with several more, inculing 'Start', 'IOPAR', 'PPAR', and then another directory 'CASDI'. any ways, pressing FORMO only brings up "Library 1010: FORM..." onto the stack. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? I wish there was a awy to attach small docs to these posts, but if you download the program there is a nice PDF that details what you should be getting (but I'm not). Lastly, is there an easy way to change directories up a level (without going to the Files buttom)? thanks guys, brad --- In 50g@yahoogroups.com, "Charles Chindenga" <cfortuh@...> wrote: > > > To execute a program on SD card just type > :3:NAME OF PROGRAM > Then press EVAL > > - original message - > Subject: Re: [50g] how do i install and execute a program? but please step by step... > From: Dave Boyd <boydda@...> > Date: 23/05/2008 18:36 > > tooshorttoremain wrote: > > i have found many info on the net but neither worked. i have put the > > file on an sd. and then i copy it to the port 2. then i soft reset it ( > > i press on and f3 together). and it is attached . i got it till now, > > but how do i run the program. is there an execute button im missing? > > One thing about the HP-50G: there are a lot of modes and settings and > different ways to do things that will affect how you do things. It is a library. Store it in port 2. Either by using the filer or typing 2 and pressing STO. Reboot the calc by pressing and holding ON-C. Access using the LIB menu. > Lastly, is there an easy way to change directories up a level > (without going to the Files buttom)? UPDIR on the keyboard. TW
