Charly,

Use masm to assemble DIO, drop it into emulation RAM and away you go.

You could use PTA as long as the signal stays in the asserted state for 
long enough to generate an interrupt. You could use NITC with a MAX_COUNT of 1.

Tie your input to a PORTE or PORTF bit?

My real answer would be the DIO in emulation RAM. Using the emulation RAM 
is a nice tool to have in your toolbox. If all of your functions are 
downloaded, you don't have to care about which mask you are using, and 
reverse engineering the code becomes harder as someone would have to 
disassemble your microcode.
