Hi Ed ! i'm a guitar player too ... I don't understand why these metal guys want to play well under the natural range of their instrument : if a normal guitar is too high for your taste, play bass and stop bothering your comrades !! What you say about staying in tune is perfectly right , even with heavy gauge strings : physics don't mind about gimmicks ! The problem of our friend is , in fact , that all the band members want to play at very low frequencies , and everyone pushes his amp up trying to hear what he plays in the overall infra-sound rumble ! In a good mix , even in "tutti" and "fff" parts , you must hear all the instruments , that means everyone has to manage with the sound power and the frequencies he plays , including harmonics . That's why our ancestors have invented such a wide range of instruments , from triangle and piccolo to double bass and bass drums ! @+ J.F. Ed Edwards a \ufffdcrit : >Drop "C" (dropsy)?
