An1x...hands down...it's sound cannot be matched not even by my nova from time to time...unless you want a hobo or violin sound......or any of those lovely GM/XG sounds...remember that most of those 'analoge' samples in the cs1x and 2x come STRAIGHT from the An1x...so the an1x can do those (better) and a whole whole lot more... Huh? The CS1x was released long before the AN1x..... Where did you hear that the samples were based on it?

From: "ggareth" <ggareth@...> > I have a question to anybody who has owned both these synths. > > I'm looking to buy one of these second-hand just for programming > sounds and jamming with friends. I realise that the CS2X uses > samples and the AN1X uses analog-modelling but at the end of the day > which one is the most enjoyable and satisfying to play? Comparing them is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but one thing could make a difference: the keyboard. I don't know if the CS2x has the same keyboard as the CS1x, but if this is the case, the AN1x has a much better quality keyboard. (As keyboards go, I would place the CS1x at the bottom end, the AN1x in the middle, and the Yamaha EX's and Korg Tritons and Z1 at the top end.) I think the feel of a keyboard is very important for the joy of playing it, so apart from the differences in sound engine (little polyphony, bi-timbrality but full programmability for the AN1x; more polyphony and multitimbrality but less exciting sounds for the CS2x) that should be a consideration. Since your focus is programming and jamming (where you don't need all the polyphony and multi-timbrality), I would advise the AN1x. - Peter

Yep, the keyboard on the an1x is a whole lot better than the cs2x. Don't forget the better arp and ribbon controller on the an1x. Bastiaan van de Werk [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If you have a little more to spend you might look into a CS6X, instead of the CS2x, since it has better sounds, a nicer keybed, sampling, and allows you to add the An1X as an expansion board--giving you, on the whole, a lot of flexibility for an all-in- one keyboard setup. If you are looking for a single board for analog- ish sounds, however, the AN1X is the way to go.
