Hello,

if u go on

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/database

and then gear

u will find out :-)

i think the k5k is amazing machine and one of the best
synth key touch ever , i had a k5 and sold it (
it was also pretty good master KBD and synth for 87
and still is compare to some newer synth .. and i love
the way u could trigger AT .. on my jd800 now it looks like
u need an hammer to get AT :-)

AN1x is better in this respect.

The K5000 is an awesome synth. One of my firends has one for
years now - you should check out the K5000 mailing list here at
Yahoo! Groups if you haven't already.

I'd consider something along the lines of a Waldorf MW II/XT
(wavetable synth) or 2nd hand Korg Wavestation. Maybe a FS1r
for a healthy does of FM in your setup?

If you enjoy using VSTi's I'd recommend Native Instruments
Absynth and/or FM7
http://www.native-instruments.net/index.php?home_us The
demo for FM7 was a little "buggy" but I believe there have been a
pair of updates to FM7 addressing those issues. Not bad
considering how slow NI is with updates. Absynth is incredible
and will only get better in time, I'm certain.

If cost is an issue then consider Greeen Oaks Crystal (freeware)
http://www.greenoak.com/ as an alternative to Absynth and
perhaps Loftsoft's FM Heaven (shareware)
http://www.loftsoft.co.uk/ as an alternative to FM7.

Hmmm... How about a Novation Nova? This will give you soem nice
analog sounds and is inexpensive (especially used at about $525).

Or an original Access Virus. They can be bought used for about $600,
even the b model has come down to about $850 used.

The Waldorf XT can be bought used for around $700 these days.

The Waldorf Micro Q Rack can be bought new for $450.

Any of the above synths would greatly expand your sound capabilities.
I favor the Nova and Virus synths.

Hello

maybe is just me .. but i get more and more pleasure with real time
synths, simply laid out panels and immidiate tweaking

http://www.mfberlin.de/Produkte/Musikelektronik/MFB-SYNTH/mfb-
synth.html

or a waldorf pulse with some knobby box
can make miracles
u can chain them also if u want polyphony

i also love the doepfer ms404 if u can find one

all mono analogue ..depends also what kind of sonority
u are after

also cheap nowdays are jd990/k2000/Ws/UWave/TG77/Sy99

hi all,

absynth and fm7 are good - but i don´t like softsynth very much -
you have always to sit on a pc :/ besides that i don´t understand
fm7 structure up to now.

i thought about the yamaha fs1r, but i am not realy sure if this is
the right one for me.. it seams to be very hard to programm sound on
it ( testing it would be nice )- somebody here owns one?

about this nova/virus/waldorf synth - i think the synth architecture
will not make happy. isn´t it just like a an1x , maybee better?

i really would like to know something more about the physical
modeling synth.....
are thwere any good synth review out there ( in german would be
great
:)

anyway thanks for your tips so far

A common and perfectly reasonable statement. But this is one
reason I like my AN1x so much - the [ASSIGN] Knobs can
reprogrammed easily to control other sound modules or VSTi's.
Alternately, you can easily set-up most sequencing
environments with templates to remap incoming MIDI CCs to
your VSTi's. This is typically a one time effort so for me it
minimizes - practically eliminates - the issue altogether. But
again, this entirely a matter of personal preference and is not a
right or wrong arguement.

Yes, you could take thinks a step further then the AN1x with the
excellent Peavey PC1600X MIDI Controller (or something
equivalent) and reallly go to town! I would LOVE to have one
those!!!

Great choices on the 2nd hand market :-) Watch out for
Wavestations and original K5s with burntout or fading backlight
displays.TG77/SY99s were great synths and there is loads of
online Kurzweil support.

Dunno for states, but european market around www.ebay.de is packed with analog
classics going for ridicilous prices - not to mention samplers, as everyone
are going soft (from their head).

So open http://www.vintagesynth.com on one window and ebay at another, and
start throwing keywords and salivating!
