An1x and PLG150AN

An1x and PLG150AN

2005-09-23 by fai31188

I am trying to reduce my live rig down to two boards. One option I
have is to trim the An1x and replace it with the PLG150-AN which I
would install in my Motif ES7. What are my options in terms of
transferring voices between the An1x and the PLG board? I understand
that there are obvious differences between the two beasts, but, is it
possible to create a sound on the An1x and modify it so that it plays
on the PLG card?

I have PLG150AN(and DX) boards in my S80. An1x patchbanks in files
here load to the PLG userbank with no problem- just use either an1x
edit or the AN expert editor which comes with the AN board. Check the
an1x editors' helpfile (file types and voice data) for exact
differences between the two, and conversions that take place when
transferring voices. I have many an1x patchbanks stored on S80s'
smartmedia card; only takes a few seconds to load a bank from card to
PLG board. The AN board is fixed at scene 1 and on-board efx are
limited to amp sim and eq. It's easy to route AN voices thru the
hosts' efx though, and doing Host Synth/AN splits and layers no
problem. The S80 has 5 assignable knobs (and exp ped input) that I use
for real-time AN control. You might find the PLGs' extra goodies
useful (esp. multi-saw wave and osc X-Mod). If you have an empty PLG
slot in your Motif, go for
it! --

An1x and PLG150AN

Steve,

Thanks for your reply... Is the AN expert editor OSX
compatible? That would be great. One of my
frustrations with the An1x right now is that I can't
edit the patches on my computer...

Well, I suppose I can use the editor librarian
available for the An1x for the plg card in OSX...

No; I believe all the PLG editors work with Win95 thru XP
only...

As previously discussed, all the AN editors supplied by Yamaha run
under Classic - you can install OMS along with the MIDI Driver for
your USB MIDI Interface under OS X (Panther or Tiger) and it will
work as intended. There are no native OS X editors for the AN family.

An1x and PLG150AN

Jon,

I was hoping that since the plg 150 an is a newer
product that it would be supported under OSX. You're
right though, we did discuss running the An1x editors
under classic...
