Does anyone know where this Atari program could be found ?

Does anyone know where this Atari program could be found ?

Bank Dumper (TM)
Software for Atari ST Computer and
Oberheim Xpander Synthesizer
including 1000 Sounds

All rights reserved / copyright 1988 Jacques Isler AG, Zurich

It's not in the files section (unless it is named incorrectly), I've
already looked. ;(

(I'm NOT referring to the Matrix.zip file which is the Matrix 1000
editor by Quinsoft, which IS in the files directory)

Actually, I'm only interested in the patches themselves, not the program.

It´s not in the files section because it´s not free and copyright as also copy protected,- physically too !!!
If you copy the disk, you have a workdisk, but you need to have the original disk inserted in the floppy drive all the time even you start it from a harddrive. More,- if you start it from a harddrive it won´t find it´s default bank, what it has to, even if you copy this bank to the drive and w/ the original disk not being inserted in the floppy drive.
As I mentioned in the Xpantastic group, the patches are content of this copy protected program and in the programs bank format, not raw sysex,- and not any part of this program disks content is free to copy unless someone finds the creator and/or distributor of this program to get an authorization.
It´s also possible, all the rights of the company went in 3rd party hands after liquidation.

If you want the patches, try to find the Oberheim compact cassette for the Xpander/Matrix 12 which contains these patches.
I think that´s much easier and avoids legal conflicts.

Not all the old software is for free,- have you ever seen Digidesign programs for free if these are not cracks ?

If someone makes evident there is an authorization to upload the content of that copy protected program to files sections of groups, I´d do it as soon I have the time for it.

Specifically, it's for the Oberheim Xpander.
Oberheim made many different synths

i think we got steinberg twenty - four v.3
uploaded,
its copy right ..???
this atari stuff is getting real old,
and cannot be found anywhere.

I´m pretty sure it is copyright protected, unless it´s on the Steini ftp legacy products server and declared as free.
I know, Avalon is on that server, but only for the guys who have a dongle and need a replacement disk content AFAIK.
In the case of Steini, probably there would be more on the server for download, but they lost the Atari stuff in a fire several years ago.
But maybe you have to differ between products/apps and the code itself eventually.
The Atari products they had in stock are definitely lost but I think the code is still there and I´m pretty sure all belongs to Yamaha now.

Not supporting a computer platform anymore and not selling the products for this platform doesn´t mean they don´t hold the rights.

At least it depends on if someone cares on this or not,- you never know.

Have in mind all the Steini apps need dongles, so if a program runs without a dongle, it´s a crack,- that´s a fact.
Also, it makes no sense to upload dongle protected software to any files sections if there is no dongle available.

As w/ every company in the pioneer times, all started like a small family which slowly grew up and 1st there was the idealism and money was 2nd row. I can imagine they worked a lot and hard and the income was small for years.
The 1st generation were freaky guys, musicians too,- and often there were more people existing who participated on the rights of the early generation programs as it is the case today where a monstrous companys hire the coders all over the world for a fee.

Most old coders of those companys are gone since years,- but did they abdicate their rights which they eventually had or have up to now ? Can be, cannot be ...

In fact, the old founders aren´t in the company today anymore and no one knows how the legal department of Yamaha behaves in such cases. Have in mind the possibility, the leaving guys got a compensation and all belongs to the trust now,- the knowledge, the experience and the creativity of the work of that people, the functionality, concept and graphical design of the apps,- everything you can imagine. All this generally can be used in upcoming products and concepts as part of a idea p.ex.

I´m surprised how many people think about the products of software developers in the terms of "separate products".
The Steini sequencers we have today are all based on the very 1st sequencer they started to develope, on the Commodore, then the Atari ST, the Falcon, then the Mac and PC.
The stuff grew up and changed, became more and more complex, audio came up, the code was ported to other platforms and so on, but there was a beginning and I don´t believe the intention of companies is to publish their knowledge for free.
And they want you to buy their todays products and not to use their old ones for free because these were good enough too,- and they were,- how in the world should we have recorded and produced succesfull music in the past,- just w/ midi, tape machines and SMPTE ?

That´s the way how economy works folks.

if somebody has some of this hard to find stuff, email me or put in files sections ,
the atari midi needs no boundries!!

oh i disagrre
a little bit with you pewe,

::::::::::::end of quote::::::::::::::::::::::::
only input towards this statement is ..
what if you buy something from ebay or your elsewhere,
and the disk its self is damaged or "craps-out"?
now do you see what i mean?? ,
we need a good place to backup our stuff.
then a user must find the disk ,,
and what a better place to start looking
then the atari midi files ?????
but i agree with most of the other stuff you mentioned pewe,
especially how a company struggles to acheive stability
finacially and popularity wise...
new or old steinberg is wonderfull
i like the atari versions much better than the pc versions

And now ?

From my former mail below
>>>
If someone makes evident there is an authorization to upload the
content of that copy protected program to files sections of groups,
I´d do it as soon I have the time for it.
<<<

(B.t.w my lawyer, he just leaved the house, says "no")

I myself have no interest to contact a person, who I´ve met on a Frankfurt Fair for a short time once and who for sure doesn´t remember who I was and who I am,- after ~ 20 or more years ( I don´t know the year exactly).

I personally never had the intention to upload these files and I didn´t start this discussion. I only mentioned this program exsists and anyone who wants the program/patches can try to find it @ebay,- that´s all.

Since then, people try to persuade me to upload this copyright protected disk,- that´s get on my nerves a bit.
If J. Isler is the person who has the copyright for this program, he shall send me a valid digitally signed PDF which authorizes me to upload the disk at a time I can do it.

The request of Xpantastic is far beyond of a simple upload of the disk and needs some work,- extracting the patches from banks to a single patches raw sysex format for free download.
I simply don´t know why I shall do this w/ 1000 patches and remame them. This is not my hobby folks.
My profession is musician, not files converter and I make my money w/ my work.

I payed for the program, I own the licence and I can do with it what I think is right for me.

As I mentioned before,- I share knowledge and experience via email and like to help, but I don´t like to support illegal practice.

@ PeWe,

it wasn't meant as a request for you to get busy proceeding that
route. This http://www.jacquesisler.com/ bit of info was just a
general contribution.

I myself too was marvelling some time ago about the whereabouts of
Jaques Isler since I own the Matrix-6 Version (floppy) of the
BankDumper and I suspected floppies won't last forever... :-)

But right now I don't worry about it and thus I too don't feel
inclined to try to contact Jacques Isler myself.

@ Tony,

bouncing e-mails - for sure e-mail addresses openly displayed on
websites attract tons of spam causing the inbox to be full, and maybe
there's nobody there (holiday) to take care of it?

But through http://whois.domaintools.com/jacquesisler.com
I discovered another e-mail address and website of Jacques Isler.
The e-mail is <info @ g66.eu>, the website is http://g66.eu/

Another e-mail address, found there at
http://g66.eu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=68&Itemid=51
or http://g66.eu/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3
is <kicks @ g66.eu>

There is also a phone number mentioned:
+49 (0) 461 1828 066 (7:00 - 22:00 h in Germany)
+49 (0) 461 1828 093 is a fax number.

Maybe someone is into asking him about releasing his old Atari
Software as Freeware?

This much for now,
:^) Greg

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
