AVR Studio treats the AVR ICE-Cube in the same way as an Atmel JTAG ICE
(Mark 1).  So, you can't use the ICE-Cube with an ATmega1280.

The recommended JTAG interface is the JTAGICE MkII, which is $300.00.  I
heard somewhere talk of Atmel lifting the 32 Kbyte linit on the AVR Dragon,
so if that's true you may have a much less expensive choice there.
