There have been half price sales around on that for a while,
maybe you can still get them. There were some threads on
Avrfreaks.net on the suppliers.

You need to get Studio V4.18. I have used it with the new Xmegas
chips and it supposedly can handle all chips with JTAG, DW, PDI.

Have not been able to get PDI working yet with the Dragon but it
will come good.

If you can afford the JTAG Mk2 it's a lot more robust that the Dragon.
