AVR-Chat

Well, thanks for nothing to everyone but the last entry, I just don't get how people can waste the time writting a respose which offers nothing but non-constructive solutions! I specifically asked for DIY solutions, I understand completely the amount of time I 'floundered' away on hashing through the design flaws and frusteration- I was there and noone else!! I just had to post a response because usually this is a great way to get some advice, but for the 'know-it-alls' who think they have the solution but don't bother to completely read the queries!!
 
 Just to straighten things out, I did thank the contributor who offered the great advice on using the BASCOM software along with the dongle, it has been my saving grace thus far, as I still am trying to figure out the AVRdude command line software. As I posted on AVRfreaks, the dongle that ended up working for me is the Olimex AVR_PG2b design, a very simple design which leaves out many of the 'enhanced' features which didn't work in the other designs I 'floundered' with. The strange thing about it is that it only seems to work for loading the tiny45, not the mega devices I have. I do only have 3 types of megas(16,103L,128) and one type of tiny(45), so I am not at all the one to try all the various the combinations. The BASCOM software 'supports' these devices but just doesn't seem to load into the megas via the dongle. I also tried with the Kanda STK300 dongle I have and still no go, so who knows?? I am just happy to be getting going with the tiny devices, and will flounder with the rest later when I get my patience back:)
 
 Anyways, thanks again for the good help offered out. I, like most folks I'm sure, recieve the email digest each day, and view each and every posting that goes through the AVR-Chat. Being that I am a fairly new beginner I don't have alot of advice to offer out to folks, but when I do see something I can help with, I do, which is the whole foundation behind this arena, no? I understand that there are people of every skill range posting and recieving, and to many seeing the same old questions from newbies may be stale, but keep in mind that for some 'floundering' is an important part of the learning curve and doesn't at all mean that they are wasting their time in any sense! My best way of learning is getting in there and making those mistakes is I have to!! Thanks all.
