Hi,

my colleagues tried it, they reported that it's slow and has new, "heavy" interface.
Wants to see more opinions :)

Best regards,
Eugene

When I go to the Atmel site to download it it says it is a Beta version:-

no thanks Atmel.

It's also a very slow download for some people. It took me about an hour
to get it.

I've been playing with it, and it isn't bad. It has some problems, of
course, being beta software.

It seems to have gone down like a lead balloon with the fanboys on AVR
Freaks, mainly because it isn't cross-platform, and uses Microsoft
Visual Studio as the IDE. Microchip has been more sensible with their
new MPLAB X, basing it on NetBeans - it runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

Still Windows only.

I've been following the PIC MPLAB X progress and it is supported on Windows, Linux and Mac. That could be interesting since universities tend to prefer Linux support these days.

This beast relies on the .NET framework for the IDE. That means that
you will never be able to run it in WINE. The Atmel folks say that
everything but the IDE is cross=platform.

That's funny! Isn't everything else all open source like gcc? IOW, what we already have?

If I understand the postings by the Atmel "dev team" on AVRFreaks, the
other components "will" be available compiled for Win, Mac and Linux
without the IDE (implied support for new parts, as they are available).
Not going to hold my breath, though!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
