Good question, Mark. I've been asking myself the same question. Has AVR Freaks slowed down, as well? About 6 months ago I started playing with Raspberry Pi, but will always use AVR for some of my projects. AVRs are great little machines. Where else can one get this kind of functionality for such a low price?

I was never actively involved but it was real fun see everyone discussing a lot of interesting problems, you are right mark regarding this but AVR community or forums everywhere have slowed down to my knowledge,With Avalanche of new microcontrollers and ARM cores at competitive lets see upto where the AVR survives(I shifted to MSP series a year back) and STM32 (for higher computing purpose).
Nevertheless I will always be in debt of ATMEGA32 and Atmega168 I learned everything from them(from programming to basic electronics stuff).

And Mark I really dont think AVR forums will stop(at least for next few years) albeit it is going to slow down.

Pretty much anywhere. I used AVR for a couple projects, but found that
I could almost always find a PIC for the job that was cheaper - mostly
due to the fact that there is a wider variety of PIC chips with
different options.

Now I'm using LPC1xxx series ARM cortex-M0 instead of PIC even for most
things.

The projects I'm working on now are also using other processors. I've got a 6 pin PIC10, an ST Micro ARM, and a Motorola processor going. I still prefer the AVR over the PIC, but I don't always get to choose.
