I was heading over to see if I could find any info on using a non -l Mega8 at 3.3V. So, has anyone used a straight Mega8 at 3.3V succesfully? G'day all
Avrfreaks site seems to be misbehaving the last 2 days,
at least for me. Does anyone else have a similar problem
wityh the site? I can get into the main page but when
I go to the forum page it locks up IE (not responding)
and I have to kill the task and relaunch IE.
2nd topic (2 topics in one saves ink) I got some
solder past last year and didn't use it. The expiry
date was July 04 so, having nothing to lose I tried it
out yesterday and it seems to do it's thing pretty well,
it magically changes from gue stuff to solder under heat,
so what is the problem using it? Do the components fall
off in time or what? I have put it in the old fridge now
waiting your learned opinions as to it's fate :-)

Do never attempt to dilute it with alcohol or glycerine, you will experience a bad experience ;-9.. (All the painstakenly placed components jump of the board like popcorn when heated). Maybe one day i find out what can dilute it without that problem.... If you paste is "wet" enough to work, and solders ok, there is no long term disadvantage to be expected. ST

It seems fluid enough. The tube was never opened. There
was quite a bit of yellowish stuff when I first squirted
the syringe but then it turned pasty grey. Well I will
try and use it in a week or so when I get my modified
'work horse' board which changed from a Motorola HC711
micro to a M64 (or M128) micro....what in the world will
I do with 64K (or 128K) of flash...my largest program so
far is about 6k. I guess I could rewrite everything in C,
that will soon fill it up :-))

It will be hand soldered using the method described by some. Put
a continous bead of paste onto the pads, place the chip, solder
two pins on opposite sides and then run the iron tip along the pins
......and hope for the best :-(

Nitroglycerine??? :-)

I just compiled a few days ago my biggest Rabbit2000 program (~100K) to a M64 and avr-gcc, just to see if it 'fits'. And the result was a 'big' 46K bin.... By the way, my current AVR C programs always fits in an 8K M8535. I use WinAVR. Best regards, raimond

I have no problem with bad spelling (this ain't the literature club and i don't want to see your German spelling), but some of you don't know how to post ;-). So what's no problem, solder paste or avrfreaks? ST

You don't strictly need paste for that method, if you apply liquid flux you can use normal solder wire. > >Do never attempt to dilute it with alcohol or glycerine, you will > >experience a bad experience ;-9.. > Nitroglycerine???
